Fall 2020 Conference Cancelled

Tahlequah, OK – 26 May 2020 – The National Tribal Gaming Commissioners & Regulators (NTGCR) Board of Directors held its monthly meeting on Thursday, 21 May 2020 where it considered the circumstances surrounding the annual fall conference and membership meeting.

After much consideration and deliberation, the NTGCR Board unanimously voted to cancel the 2020 fall conference.

“We have learned of travel restrictions placed on tribal departments, many for the remainder of the year. With that knowledge, information on event constraints provided to us from potential conference locations, and considering the potential for future complications if the prediction of a second round of COVID-19 in the fall is correct, the Board felt it was in the best interests of the organization to cancel the conference. We do not want to put our fellow tribal regulators at risk nor do we want to host an event that is not able to meet the first-rate level learning experience our participants have come to know and expect,” stated NTGCR Chairman Jamie Hummingbird.

Elections for Chairman and Treasurer were slated for the event. Chairman Hummingbird remarked that the elections will be held in accordance with the organization’s bylaws. “The Board has set September 29th as the date on which elections will be held. I, along with legal counsel, will work with the Election Committee to complete the elections process called for in the bylaws following a process outlined by the Committee and approved by the Board. Arrangements to hold a membership meeting on that date via a virtual meeting platform.”

The NTGCR Board expects to be able to resume regular in-person membership meetings and conferences at its spring conference. Details for the spring conference will be provided later this year.

The NTGCR is a non-profit organization consisting of sixty-four (64) members and other non-voting affiliate members. The organization is dedicated to providing tribal gaming regulators with education and training. The NTGCR promotes cooperative relationships amongst tribes and may act as a gaming regulatory advisory group to tribal gaming organizations.
